Penny’s Country Farm, located in the heart of the Finger Lakes Region in Union Springs, NY is getting ready for their 13th season of providing fun fall activities for families throughout Central NY and beyond.

Among last season’s highlights (continuing this year) was the new Blacksmith Shop structure in ‘Tombstone’, Penny’s Country Farm’s ever-expanding Western Town, and the addition of live musical entertainment with bluegrass performer, Grandpa Gus.  These features add to the ever-popular audience participation ‘Get Out of Jail’ skits with Billy Bob and Miss Kitty that take place at Tombstone’s Sheriff’s Office/Jailhouse and Saloon.

The 2017 season also saw the addition of new wheelchair accessible hayrides and restrooms and building access ramps.  According to owner Tom Minnoe, “This addition was very well received and opened up Penny’s Country Farm to an entire new audience . We operate on a very limited season – just two months each year in September and October – so making sure our grounds and activities are available for as many people as possible is important”.

Admissions at Penny’s Country Farm for last season were up about 20% from 2016, Minnoe said.  “We’ve been working hard at our marketing this year and it’s really making a difference in awareness about all we have to offer for families.  We started out in 2006 with our pumpkin patch and have been growing–pumpkins and our attractions–ever since then”, continued Mr. Minnoe.

Another well-received expansion this season was enhancements to the ‘Chuck Wagon’, where food is prepared for hungry visitors.  ‘Cookie’, who prepares the food, could hardly keep up with the orders which came from attendees and a growing group of locals who visit during the lunch hours. Miss Penny’s homemade pumpkin pie quickly became a fan favorite for guests young and old!

Penny’s Country Farm’s  “U-Pick” Pumpkin Patch is a staple for visitors from throughout the Central and Western NY regions, with all pumpkins for sale at $3 each, regardless of the size.  In October 2017, Penny’s was voted the “Best U-Pick Pumpkin Patch in Central NY” by a reader poll at Syracuse.com.

Over the past twelve seasons, the offerings at Penny’s Country Farm have grown along with the pumpkins, “Our goal is to be a one-stop shop for families looking for a day of fun,” Minnoe said.  The site offers two corn mazes (one small maze for children and a larger more challenging maze for older teens and adults); a Fun Zone play area; ‘Spook Woods,’ a small trail with fun decorations for young children; live animals; wagon rides and their very own  western town. One of the highlights of the season each year is the Pumpkin Chunkin weekend where visitors enjoy the spectacle of watching pumpkins launched every half hour from an air cannon into a wooded area that is about a half-mile distance away.

Minnoe said plans for the 2018 Season are already in the works. “We’re planning to build a Town Square and the Hotel ‘Tombstone’ in our western town, and we’ll have some other surprises, too. We’re getting closer to our goal of becoming a top-ten regional fall attraction.” People who are interested in learning more about what’s in store for 2018 are encouraged to sign up for Penny’s Country Farm ENewsletter at the pennyscountryfarm.com website.
